Member of Parliament for Gower
Born and raised in Gower, Byron was educated at Knelston County Primary School and Gowerton Boys’ Grammar School and has an honours degree in law. He is married to Gill and they have one son.
Prior to the 2015 General Election, Byron served as a Regional Assembly Member for South Wales West, where he was Shadow Minister for Transport and a Whip within the Welsh Conservative group. Since becoming MP for Gower, Byron is a member of the Welsh Affairs Select Committee.
Byron’s career as a police officer was in London’s Metropolitan Police, where he was seconded and served for a number of years at the UK National Crime Squad. During this time, he was seconded to the European Union as an advisor on combating organised crime. He spent several years living and working in Eastern Europe, helping to prepare EU candidate countries for accession. He is the author of European Union Commission progress reports for several countries in the Balkan region and prior to election to the Assembly continued this work as an independent advisor.
